Rational use of private protective equipment for coronavirus disease (COVID-19)
This document summarizes WHO recommendations for the rational use of private protective equipment (PPE), in health care and community settings, including the handling of cargo. This document is meant for those involved within the distribution and management of PPE, also as public health authorities and individuals in health care and community settings to know when PPE use is most appropriate.
When to use a mask
Before putting on a mask, clean hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.
Cover mouth and nose with mask and confirm there are not any gaps between your face and therefore the mask.
Avoid touching the mask while using it; if you are doing, clean your hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.
Replace the mask with a replacement one as soon because it is damp and don't re-use single-use masks.
To remove the mask: remove it from behind (do not touch the front of the mask); discard immediately during a closed bin; clean hands with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.
When and the way to wear medical masks to guard against coronavirus?
If you're healthy, you simply got to wear a mask if you're taking care of an individual with COVID-19.
Wear a mask if you're coughing or sneezing.
Masks are effective only utilized in combination with frequent hand-cleaning with alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.
If you wear a mask, then you want to skills to use it and eliminate it properly.
Why doesn't everyone wear a mask now?
The World Health Organization (WHO) says only two groups of individuals should wear protective masks, those that are:
sick and showing symptoms
caring for people suspected to possess coronavirus
It says medical masks should be reserved for healthcare workers.
Masks aren't recommended for the overall public because:
they can be contaminated by other people's coughs and sneezes, or when putting them on or removing them
frequent hand-washing and social distancing are simpler
they might offer a false sense of security
The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control agrees that medical face masks should be prioritized for healthcare workers. But it says non-surgical face masks might help stop the spread of coronavirus by people that are contagious but haven't any symptoms.
This could be particularly useful in busy spaces, like grocery stores, shopping centers, and on conveyance, it says.
Coronavirus is spread by droplets which will spray into the air when those infected talk, cough, and sneeze. These can enter the body through the eyes, nose, and mouth, either directly or after touching a contaminated object.
What face masks are employed by health workers?
The widespread use of face masks by the general public could put NHS supplies in danger, says Chris Hopson, chief executive of NHS Providers.
In hospitals, differing types of masks offer different grades of protection. the foremost protective is an FFP3 or, alternatively, an N95 or an FFP2.
NHS staff in lower-risk situations can wear a surgical mask. This includes healthcare workers within one meter of a patient with possible or confirmed Covid-19. These staff could also be in hospitals, medical care, ambulance trusts, community care settings, and care homes.
